This course has been written and developed by equestrian professionals who have over half a century of experience working with horses and at riding schools and meets the criteria for council licensing requirements.
The course is designed to prepare the learner to be an effective team member whilst working on a yard – whether that is a riding school, livery yard or private set up. Being an effective groom requires much more than simply being able to muck out stables, knowledge of care, welfare, management, behaviour, feeding and first aid is vital. Also in today’s digital world, how to be professionally compliant when dealing with the public both in person and on social media is a necessary skill.
Here at Lingfield, we believe the horse should be at the heart of everything that we do, which is why this course has been structured with a focus, in the first instance, on equine psychology and behaviour. Understanding how our equine friends think, feel and operate is absolutely essential to working with them as colleagues and partners.
Everyone who works with horses has a duty of care to be equipped with the knowledge needed to take care of them as best we can. We must remember that they did not choose their jobs or homes, and so we have a responsibility to ensure that they are always listened to, respected and cared for. As professionals, we can do this by equipping ourselves with the knowledge, trusting our instincts around them, communicating effectively within our teams, and advocating for the horses in our care using the skills, learning and experience we have gathered.
This course can be undertaken as a stand alone certification course, or in conjunction with the ABRS (or similar) practical ‘Equine Care and Welfare’ course. It has been written to align with descriptors appropriate to Level 2 on the regulatory framework.
